Final Fantasylink outside website has already become the best-selling set in Magic: The Gathering even before its official release on June 13. The collaboration between Square Enix's anthology and the card game brought a series of products for both fans of the card game and collectors and those passionate about the Final Fantasy universe.

Collecting, in fact, is what most fans of the game seem to be interested in this set. However, with so many different variants, illustrations and products that Magic offered for this collaboration, it is difficult to know exactly where to find each card, promo, alternative version, and exclusive card of a specific product — that's why we prepared this complete guide on where to find each version of Final Fantasy cards, separated by difficulty levels and rarity on the market.

Level 1 - Starting Your Journey!

Every journey has to start somewhere, and in the case of Magic x Final Fantasy, the gateway to playing and collecting is through the preconstructed decks.

These decks have a specific composition of cards in all products, with no variation between them, ensuring the buyer a safe choice to have their first Final Fantasy cards.

Starter Kit

Although the cover cards are from Final Fantasy VII, the Starter Kit brings characters and moments from several different games in the series in a product ready to play straight out of the box, aimed at beginners. All cards in this set are Standard-legal.

Commander Decks

The Commander Decks are prconstructed for the Commander format, with 100 cards each, all themed around a specific game in the franchise:

  • Revival Trance for Final Fantasy VI
  • Limit Break for Final Fantasy VII
  • Counter Blitz for Final Fantasy X
  • Scions and Spellcraft for Final Fantasy XIV

Not all the cards in the set are legal in Standard (that's why they have a Chocobo symbol instead of the Crystal symbol), but they all have illustrations specific to the game represented on the box. In addition, they come with a sample pack Collector Booster, with three random cards with special illustrations.

    Level 10 - A Newfound Adventure

After preparing and buying your first equipment, it's time to explore the vast world of Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy. The beginning of your journey will mainly involve cards that can come in Play Boosters, the game's traditional card pack that can be found in any local store.

Opening boosters is fun, but there is no guarantee that you will pull the cards you want. Therefore, many players and collectors opt for the secondary market option: Singles are cards sold for a certain amount on marketplaces or with players, whose prices are set by rarity, gameplay and regional factors.

    Traditional Cards

    Image content of the Website

The traditional version of all the cards from the main set, with the illustration and border of a Magic card. They are the most common version of the cards to find when we open a booster pack.

    Cid

    Image content of the Website

    Ad

Despite being the same card, Cid, Timeless Artificer has fifteen different variants. Some versions will likely be harder to acquire than others, either due to the character's popularity or a lower pull rate, but all will be available in Play Boosters.

    Full Art Landmarks

    Image content of the Website

Full-art lands are a recurring element of Magic and usually appear in any booster pack in the game. In Final Fantasy, each of them depicts a specific region or location from a game in the series.

    Borderless Adventure Lands

    Image content of the Website

Final Fantasy brings the first Adventure Lands. In addition to the traditional version, the Borderless variant of them can be found in Play Boosters.

    Borderless Character Cards

    Ad

    Image content of the Website

Iconic characters from the series also received Borderless versions with Anime illustrations, available in Play Boosters. Due to the appeal that “anime cards” have on the parallel market, it is likely that these versions will be harder to find than traditional illustrations.

    Borderless Artist Series

    Image content of the Website

Eleven renowned Final Fantasy artists, such as Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura, were called upon to portray some cards of famous characters from the series. Although these will be found in Play Boosters, they will be much more coveted than the traditional versions or the anime variants due to the popularity that these illustrators have in the Final Fantasy community.

    Borderless Woodblock

    Image content of the Website

The Borderless Woodblock includes special illustrations for iconic characters or elements from the main games. Like Character Cards, they will likely have a higher market value than the traditional versions.

    Through the Ages

    Image content of the Website

Final Fantasy also offers some Magic reprints with official illustrations from the games in the series. Whether it's concept art or even in-game screenshots. None of them are Standard-legal, but they include reprints of staples from eternal formats and Commander, which should make them coveted by players and fans alike.

    Buy-a-Box Promo

    Image content of the Website

Herald's Horn is the Buy-a-Box promo for all non-Japanese Final Fantasy boxes. Since stores tend to open boxes to sell singles or players open them for packs, it's natural that fans find them easily on the market.

Level 30 - Mastering your Collection!

Now let's move on to what we call premium products. I mean, Final Fantasy is already priced like a premium Magic set, but within that, there’s the “premium of the premium” — Collector Boosters and Collector’s Edition Commander Decks.

    Collector’s Edition Commander Decks

    Image content of the Website

Collector Commander Decks are the same as traditional Commander decks, card for card, except that they all get special Surge foil treatment.

    Collector Boosters

    Image content of the Website

Collector Boosters, as the name suggests, are packs for collectors. They have a higher percentage of pulling certain cards in special versions than Play Boosters. In addition, there are some cards that can only be opened in this product.

    Date Cards

The Secret Rendezvous card has four different illustrations, each featuring a different character from the encounter scene in Final Fantasy VII. The version of Cloud with Tifa is guaranteed to be in the Commander Limit Break deck, but the others can only be opened in Collector Boosters. Each of them has a 4.5% chance of being opened.

    Extended Art Cards

    Image content of the Website

Extended art cards from the traditional version can also only be opened in Collector Boosters. Extended art versions of cards from Commander Decks are also in these packs.

There are also alternate versions of Traveling Chocobo, but we'll get to that later.

Level 50 - Exploring the Dungeon

After traveling the Continent searching for treasure, it's time to venture into the dungeons to collect Crystals. The cards below can be found by participating in specific Magic events — most of them end up later in player binders and/or in marketplaces around the world. Given the collectible factor, they tend to be considerably more expensive than traditional versions of the same cards.

    Standard Showdown

The Final Fantasy Standard Showdown season will feature two promos: Ultima and Squall, SeeD Mercenary — both in traditional foil versions. To participate in a Showdown event, you must have a Standard deck and check with your local store for exact event dates. They run from June 13th to July 24th.

    Store Championship

The Store Championship will feature promotional versions of Preordain for all participants, while the Top 8 will receive a special version of Death’s Shadow in traditional foil, and the winner will receive a City of Brass as “Bhujerba, Floating City” in traditional foil.

WPN Premium stores will also receive non-foil versions of these promos with their store name printed on them. Store Championship events run from June 28th to July 20th.

    Commander Party

The Commander Party takes place from June 20 to 26 and July 18 to 24, and as the name implies, it is an event dedicated to the Commander format. Event participants will receive promotional versions of Despark or Culling Ritual in traditional versions. WPN Premium stores will receive foil versions of these cards to distribute.

    Regional Championship Qualifiers

    Image content of the Website

The Regional Championship Qualifiers (RCQs) are the gateway to competitive Magic. Winning them means earning a spot in your region's Regional Championship, which earns you a cash prize and the opportunity to play in the season's Pro Tour.

The above version of Aerith Gainsborough will be the season's RCQs promo from October 11 to November 23 in the Modern* format. Participants will receive a traditional version of the card, while finalists will receive a foil variant.

Level 60 - Traveling the World

It's time to seek new horizons and leave the Continent!

There are some Magic cards that are exclusive to specific events that occur in different regions, or products that are not shipped to every country in the world due to logistical or regional limitations.

    Secret Lair

Secret Lair is a series of special bundles sold directly by Wizards of the Coast. Final Fantasy will initially have three bundles. Each of them will be available for sale on June 9th for US$29.99 (common version) and US$39.99 (traditional foil version). Both in English and Japanese.

Once the sales date is set, it is possible to find the complete Secret Lair cards or drops in marketplaces around the world, but they might be quite expensive later.

In addition to these cards, people who purchase full packs will receive a promotional version of Gilded Lotus.

Finally, each of these drops will also come with an extra card, which can be either common or rare. Commons will obviously be easier to find, and we'll discuss the rare drops later.

    Arcane Denial

    Image content of the Website

Japan will have two exclusive Buy-a-Boxes promo: Arcane Denial and Force of Negation. The version of Arcane Denial depicting the Endsinger from Final Fantasy XIV will be the “common drop” and will come in most Japanese boxes. They will be easy to acquire in Japan, but since they are exclusive to that region, they may have a high market value in Western marketplaces.

    CommandFest

    Image content of the Website

CommandFests are Commander celebration events that take place in different regions around the world. For Final Fantasy, there will be six events between June and August 2025.

  • June 28-29 in Sydney, Australia
  • June 11-13 in Bonn, Germany
  • June 11-13 in Worcester, USA
  • August 16 in Tokyo, Japan
  • August 16-17 in Beijing, China

Participants will receive a promotional version of Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh as Joshua Rosfield. It is worth noting that these cards will likely be available on international marketplaces.

    MagicCon

    Image content of the Website

MagicCon is a series of events that take place around the world on specific dates. MagicCon Vegas takes place between June 20th and 22nd and will host the Pro Tour Final Fanasy. All event attendees will receive a promo version of Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful as Torgal, Clive’s Companion.

    Pro Tour Qualifier

    Image content of the Website

The same event will host several Pro Tour Qualifiers, all in the Final Fantasy Limited format. Tournament participants will receive a promo version of Tifa Lockhart — normal for participants and traditional foil for the Top 8. The Top 4 will also receive an invitation to play the Pro Tour Edge of Eternities.

Level 80 - Facing the Boss

    Ad

Now that we've explored the world, it's time to head to the boss's castle. The cards below include exclusive promos from the Pro Tour — one of Magic's highest-level tournaments — as well as regionalized promos and cards that have both limited print runs and low drop rates.

    Rare Secret Lair Extra Card

    Image content of the Website

Each Secret Lair will come with an extra card beyond those received in bundles. This time, Magic has separated them into common and rare drops.

Percentage information has not yet been released, but the rare drop cycle includes the Modern Horizons II's Evoke Elementals, a group of creatures that are highly sought after in the eternal formats, all of which have Summon versions from Final Fantasy X — so it's likely that these will be cards that are highly sought after by both players and fans.

    Japanese Force of Negation

    Image content of the Website

Force of Negation has an exclusive version in Japan and is the rare drop of the Buy-a-Box. There are only 2,000 copies, so while it's probably less difficult to acquire than, say, Pro Tour Cloud, it's both a highly coveted card among Magic players and has an artwork that Final Fantasy fans will recognize and want for their collection.

    Ad

    Pro Tour Promo

    Image content of the Website

The Pro Tour Final Fantasy promo card will be an alternate version of Cloud, Midgar Mercenary illustrated by Tetsuya Nomura. Each tournament participant will receive a non-foil version of the card, while the Top 32 will get the foil version. Since it's limited to one event, both should have a considerably high price tag, and the Top 32 version might as well be one of the rarest Final Fantasy cards to date.

    Spotlight Series Japan Promo

    Image content of the Website

The same card will be offered at the Magic Spotlight Series taking place in Chiba, Japan from June 27-29. Unlike the Pro Tour version, this one will be in Japanese and will be offered to all participants of the event, with the Top 128 receiving the foil version.

    Colorful Chocobos

    Image content of the Website

    Ad

Colorful variants of Traveling Chocobo can only be found in Collector Boosters. They all have the Neon Ink treatment, with distinct colorations between them.

Each Traveling Chocobo has less than 1% chance of appearing in a Collector Booster (Is this a Final Fantasy XII reference?), with all colors being in English, except for the Black Chocobo version, which only exists in Japanese.

Level 90 - Finding the Golden Chocobo

    Golden Serialized Chocobo

    Image content of the Website

In addition to the colored versions, Final Fantasy will have a special serialized card — the Golden Chocobo. Only 77 copies of this card exist, and they are only found in English Collector Boosters.

This version has a gold metallic treatment, representing the rarest version of Chocobos in the franchise.

Level 99 - The Final Boss

    Ad

Final Fantasy doesn't have its own The One Ring 001/001, but Wizards of the Coast did their part in creating an equivalent.

    77/77 Golden Chocobo

    Image content of the Website

The number 7777 is a common theme in the set, as a reference to All Lucky 7's, a status effect from Final Fantasy VII where the character, if they have exactly 7777 HP, will attack 64 times in a row for 7777 damage each.

The Golden Traveling Chocobo numbered 77/77 will probably be the most coveted Final Fantasy card for collectors around the world, being perhaps the equivalent to The One Ring 001/001 from Lord of the Rings, which was sold to singer Post Malone in 2023 for US$ 2.64 million, being the second most expensive Magic: The Gathering card in history.

    The End

Collecting all Final Fantasy cards is, perhaps, a lifelong journey. Some cards will be easy to acquire, others may be scarce in your region, and some, given in special events or with a limited edition, will be coveted by enthusiasts and collectors from various fields, making them a historic milestone in the collaboration of Square Enix's RPG with Magic: The Gathering.

As a habit, I recommend that this search for treasures be done consciously. There is a difference between wanting a card and needing it — and most of the time, we don't need it, we truly want it. Start slowly, buy the products that you like the most and evaluate to what extent you want to collect this set, whether for the TCG factor, or because Final Fantasy for you, as it is for me, represents an important part of your good memories, each one evoked in the illustrations of the new Magic expansion.
